This is the old Dutch clock tower. It shows the wrong time once in a while, running by an ancient winding mechanism.
The rod to the left of the tower is a flag poll.

A closer look at the tower. The clock is still working .....
It's around 15 meters high, and has got a winding mechanism consisting of big weights hanging almost up to the lower part of the tower.

Fort is a good attraction for tourists... and lovers ... You meet all kids of people there, really.
In my childhood, it was not much crowded, but now, a lot of people visit in the evenings, to enjoy sunsets and the sea breeze.
During the annual Cricket match between my school and our brother school, also known as the "big match" and is a one of the important annual events of the city, we used to hoist two really big school flags on the top of this tower.

This is the sea side. At the end there is one of the three bastions.
The water below is fairly shallow, there are nice colorful fish, and a lot of other small creatures... and a bit of coral. Just beyond this, people dive for all sorts of stuff such as sea shells and old artifacts from ships. Some are from the Dutch or Portuguese age and, are of very high value.

Galle light house. Below the light house, there is a nice strip of beach.
Surrounded by rocks, the waves are not big, so a lot of people come there for swimming and bathing.

The old Dutch magistrate court.
It was the Dutch people who brought the Roman-Dutch law to Sri Lanka. This used to be one of their main area of administration.

An 'ambalama': a resting place. A large green, with a road that runs along the perimeter, and buildings surrounding it ....
This was the old dutch town center. Buildings are now used for court and various town council offices.

Some buildings inside fort.
You can see the top of the roof of old dutch reformed church, and weathercock.
Building at the end of the road is a post office.

The 'old' entrance, still maintained in the same way. Last time I went there, it was being renovated, but luckily in a way that preserved the old looks.
Just outside the entrance, there is the jetty you saw earlier.

A picture taken from the outside.
There is a balcony; in old das, some governor might have addressed his armies from the balcony ....
