galle fort - a photo tour
Here are some of the photos we took at Galle Fort, the old dutch
rampart.

This is a monument erected at the entrance to the fort. There are two
entrances; This is called the 'new' one.

This is a long shot. You can see the old clock tower, and one bastion.

A part of Galle port, as seen from Fort. The hilly area is a part of
unawatuna, and the neighborhood areas.
The circular platform that can be seen on grass is a cannon mount.

Just another photo of outside wall.
The wall is lighted up by the flood lights in the night.

This is a photo taken from almost the same place, but to the opposite
direction.
A part of the bay is seen; The white buildings that are seen far away across
the bay are buildings at Galle harbor.

Another shot at bay; Near the 'old' entrance to the fort, there is another
smaller jetty, and a fishing harbor. A part of this jetty can be seen here.
The hilly area that's seen at the other side of the bay is Rumassala.

A close look at the jetty. This might have been very busy in the old times,
as the main jetty that provided logistics for Dutch people.
Now it's a popular place for swimming practice for school kids.

Galle international cricket stadium.
To preserve the archeological beauty of fort, government does not allow to
build any pavilions that might cover Fort.

A picture from the other end; Galle public park.
To the right of the water is the mouth of old canal. In the open area below,
people play football and other games in the evenings ....
